Hello. My name is Charles Gearing and I’m glad you’re here. I’m a student journalist and copywriter at the University of Oregon.

Currently in my senior year, I’ve relished every opportunity to gain real-world creative experience. Writing is an extremely transferable art form, and I’ve tested and built my skills through several different mediums.

The Daily Emerald

2018 – Current

The Daily Emerald is the long-standing student newspaper at the University of Oregon. Starting halfway through my freshman year, I began contributing to the sports section of the paper, covering football, baseball, basketball, among others. The top-tier sports programs at the university have provided myself and my colleagues with a unique opportunity to showcase our creative voices. I’ve written upwards of 100 articles on collegiate sports, ranging from breaking news and game recaps to feature articles and human interest stories. After two years reporting for the paper, I was promoted to a paid associate editor position at the beginning of my junior year.

Allen Hall Advertising

2019 - Current

As a junior, I began my involvement with real-world ad campaigns and copywriting at Allen Hall Advertising, a student-run agency at the U of O. My first client, TutorTree, was an amazing learning experience. I was the only copywriter on the account, and we ended up turning out some really great work! I took on several more campaigns in my time with AHA, including the New Venture Championship and Max’s Tavern.

Oregon Ducks Hockey

2018 - 2020

Participating in collegiate sports taught me so much more than a deep knowledge and appreciation for the game of hockey. Waking up for early-morning practices, putting in countless hours of workouts and traveling with my team allowed me to build the ever-important skills of teamwork, collaboration, leadership and time management.
